The record

This disc proposes an historical musical event: the moment of the salute to the scenes of Jula de Palma with that mythical concert was held at the Sistina Theatre of Rome in far away March 2nd 1970.
Some month later, the recording of that concert was released on vinyl by the RCA and from then, never reprinted or was proposed, even less on CD.
This is the first reprint after very 40 years.
At that time, on vinyl discs, only a determined amount of minutes of music could be inserted and not more, so, even in that occasion, it was necessary to leave out a considerable part of the songs that Jula de Palm executed from alive. The technology of the compact discs allows an availability of very larger amount of time now so here , in this first CD version, it was possible to insert 5 more pieces that were integrating part of that alive concert but they did not come inserted in the vynil disc and that up to the present, therefore, were never published.
If Jula de Palm had had intention to continue with her carrier in Italy, and abroad, the famous Italian singer Mina would have had an alter-ego extremely strong but also sure more stimulant. I believe that we can asserted without refutation that Jula de Palma has been the greatest feminine jazz interpreter of our Country. Not have her among the voices and the protagonists of successive years 1970, is like having in a thrilling energy flow interrupted for the jazz music and for the Italian music in general.
That's why this disc is important, not only for the collectors or the searchers, it is important for the testimony that it gives that becomes current vitality, regarding the voice and the musical interpretation, music in its higher essentialism...and these only thanks to the talent and the art of the song of Jula de Palma.
Certainly, it is more and more rare to be able to count on an orchestra like that skilfully directed by Gianni Ferrio who, that for the occasion, wrote mirabilis arrangements of highest class and above all he called to make part of the same orchestra, masters and soloist among the best ones in absolute that there was in the Italian panorama. Testimonies collected from some people among those who played tell us of an only and unrepeated experience.
Come on, listening to this disc in the age of the tv talk-shows that manufacture "cheap artists", here listening to Jula de Palma from the alive with the orchestra of Gianni Ferrio, comes automatic to think and to consider how was that possible today, "to fall down" into this situation.
At least in Italy.
